Abstract

This community service initiative aims to examine how the Barbershop Kids and Make-up Kids programs foster children’s creativity and self-confidence through experiential learning activities. The study applies a descriptive qualitative design with a participatory approach, emphasizing active engagement between facilitators, children, and parents. Data were gathered through direct observation of the activities implemented at the Taklim Council of Miftahul Achyar Medokan Ayu, Rungkut, Surabaya, on September 23, 2025. Field notes documented children’s responses, interaction patterns, levels of enthusiasm, and behavioral changes during the sessions. The findings indicate that both activities effectively stimulated children’s imaginative expression, fine motor skills, and aesthetic awareness as they explored hairstyling and basic make-up techniques in a guided and supportive environment. Moreover, opportunities to present their work before peers and parents contributed significantly to the development of self-confidence, communication skills, and a positive self-image. The collaborative atmosphere also encouraged mutual appreciation and peer support. These results underline the strategic importance of integrating creative, practice-based programs within community religious learning settings. Furthermore, parental involvement emerged as a critical factor in strengthening emotional bonds, enhancing children’s sense of security, and improving the overall quality of parent–child relationships through shared constructive experiences
